As I've been working through my produsage assignment, I realized that the tool I was creating could actually be used to inform my dissertation work. To that end, I've sort of been planning in my mind how I could keep track of various efforts at censorship throughout Florida by using the annotation feature of Google My Maps. I could even use the layering feature to account for different genres of books, temporal considerations, disposition, and many more. How about you, can you see yourself expanding your produsage assignment into a resource to assist you in furthering your education or work?
One of the distinct advantages of Web 2.0 is that it has helped not only in democratizing art but also facilitating its creation. As a (former) musician, I adore that people now have the technology to create music irrespective of temporospatial boundaries and without onerous financial investments. Musicians can now live in disparate parts of the country or world and still make music together thanks to file-sharing and reasonably-priced software. Another outgrowth of this phenomenon is the culture of mash-ups. To give a brief bit of background, mash-ups are essentially additions to or the manipulation of previously recorded material. One of the earliest and most notable examples of mash-ups was known as 'The Grey Album," which was released by an artist named Dangermouse in 2004. Hello Lauren! Yes, I have come across a similar epiphany. My project dealt with creating a training for employees at a sales company. I have been thinking this entire semester on how to incorporate 2.0 learning that would set learners up for success in the online setting (as this is the direction most companies are taking now). What I found is that many of the boards we have been exploring can be used to support this kind of learning. This also relates to the research I conducted for my produsage project.
