As I've been working through my produsage assignment, I realized that the tool I was creating could actually be used to inform my dissertation work. To that end, I've sort of been planning in my mind how I could keep track of various efforts at censorship throughout Florida by using the annotation feature of Google My Maps. I could even use the layering feature to account for different genres of books, temporal considerations, disposition, and many more. How about you, can you see yourself expanding your produsage assignment into a resource to assist you in furthering your education or work?

    Hello Lauren! Yes, I have come across a similar epiphany. My project dealt with creating a training for employees at a sales company. I have been thinking this entire semester on how to incorporate 2.0 learning that would set learners up for success in the online setting (as this is the direction most companies are taking now). What I found is that many of the boards we have been exploring can be used to support this kind of learning. This also relates to the research I conducted for my produsage project.

    For me, it's a definite yes. I can turn my produsage into a resource for my teaching practice. I think my colleagues would be excited to see what this tool can accomplish for the students' learning! All the best to you!

So, one of our readings this week relayed the story of Trudy and Peter Johnson-Lenz and how they used social media networking to request help following an accident that necessitated Trudy's admission to the hospital for a head injury and subsequent medical care. The part of the story that struck me most was Peter's admission that he and his wife were not much for 'schmoozing and socializing' therefore the help that they could receive from their local community was limited. So, one of our discussion topics this week relates to communities versus networks. Instinctively, I felt that communities are bonded through some type of shared belief or long-standing bond whereas networks are much looser and come together through shared interests. In the offline world, a comparison might be made between one's membership in a religious organization versus a connection made with others through work or other social endeavors (like a PTA) that could be more aptly characterized as a network.  Likewise, in the world of social media, perhaps belonging to a closed group based on past affiliation or friendship such as a FaceBook group for high school and college friends which, due to presumed close and/or longstanding relationships could be a community. We've covered so many tools in this class so far, and though I doubt I will end up using most of them following completion of this course, there are some that I've found especially helpful and intend to explore further in the future. For example, I'm really enjoying Reddit right now, both for the multitude of different topics available and the breadth and depth of responses to questions or thoughts that people post. Likewise, I'm finding a lot of useful information and functionality on Twitter that I was heretofore unaware of. I can definitely see myself using both of these tools well after the completion of this class. Conversely, some tools, don't really speak to me. Instagram for instance appears to be based around images and I'm more of a wordy gal. Still, I'm glad I'm aware of it and the potential it has to reach a specific audience. I'm curious, what tools do you see yourself using/not using beyond this course, and why?
